A romantic blaze of bright blue seas

A 115-island country lying almost 1,000 miles east of mainland Africa, there is nowhere quite like the Seychelles. With no indigenous population (the islands were settled by the French in 1770) even now only around 20 are inhabited. However, due to the diversity of influences that have passed through or come to rest here you will notice a uniquely cosmopolitan feel but with a strong French Creole culture and cuisine. The largest island, Mahé, is home to the international airport and the island’s capital, Victoria, where the lively Victoria Market provides an interesting excursion to see everything from local crafts carved from coconuts and silk paintings to spices, tea and freshly caught fish.
